No to Peace Talks with the CPP-NPA - Pres. Duterte


MalacaƱang remains hesitant on the resumption of peace talks between the administration and the Communist Party of the Philippines even after CPP organizer Jose Ma. Sison pushed both sides to come back to the arranging table.

Presidential representative Ernesto Abella yesterday said unless President Duterte alters his opinion on the end of peace talks, presidential consultants and Cabinet individuals would need to regard Duterte's choice.

“There is no formal statement coming from President Duterte. But all I can say is, I’m sure the President is a listening president and he will continue to consider the advice of his secretaries and his peace advisers,” he added.

Duterte decided to end the peace talks a week ago after the New People's Army (NPA), the outfitted wing of the CPP, propelled assaults against officers in the field. The President said the radical gathering went over the edge.
