PNP Chief Ronal 'Bato' Dela Rosa can help to be emotional during the Senate probe on Wednesday after hearing alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa's testimonies on PNP personnel involved in drug trade.
Broke down by Espinosa's statement on how he run his operations with the help of some PNP personnel in exchange of hefty bribes, Bato admitted that he is finding it hard to clean the PNP ranks from corrupted cops yet later promised not to stop.
Chief Bato extends his depth disappointments and wished nothing but to reform the PNP.
“Your honor, I cannot blame the public if they are losing trust and confidence in their police because I myself… hindi ko na alam kung sino ang pagkakatiwalaan,” Bato said.
“Gustung-gusto ko lang ma-reform ang PNP... pero ako ay hirap na hirap na. I will never surrender. Kaya ko 'to. Hindi ko ito uurungan lilinisin ko ang PNP hangga't sa makakaya ko,” he added.
Despite the hardship he and his company faced, the PNP chief vowed to continue to serve and do everything he could to clean the PNP.
"Andiyan na kami sa sitwasyon na 'yan [pero] we will survive... We will do everything humanly possible. Linisin natin ang PNP," the PNP chief stated.
"Hindi ako Superman, ako ay ordinaryong pulis lang. Pero since nilagay ako bilang chief PNP ni Presidente, gagawin ko lahat, lilinisin natin ito, even if it costs my life," he added.
Meanwhile, in order to lighten up the mood, Senator Francis Escudero cracked a joke quoting PNP chief Dela Rosa's statement that 'He is not Superman',
"Sabi niyo ho kanina, hindi kayo si Superman," katabi niyo po si Batman," Escudero told Bato while referring to Espinosa.
Kerwin Espinosa used the code 'Batman' in his illegal drug operations.
On the other hand, President Rodrigo Duterte extends his thoughts on Bato's emotional outburst and stressed the weight of Dela Rosa's burdens seeing it as a natural expression of a human being.
"It was just an expression of a human being with a burden on the entire shoulders on the peace and the law and order of this country," the president said.
"Naiintidihan ko si Bato," he added.
President Duterte deeply understands Dela Rosa's frustrations on those involve cops in drug trade, given that his campaign vowed to clean the country from corruption and drugs.
"You want at this age to be closer to the beauty of life, closer to God," said the president, adding that he couldn't because of his sworn duty
