Germany Offers Help to Philippines on Federalism

A wide debate had plague not only the Republic of Philippines but the whole world as Federalism is being pushed by the civil society groups and lawmakers in the country. One of the most powerful countries, Germany had extended their outlook to this and even offers Philippines a hand on this big leap of change.

Michael stated in his speech before the Global Autonomy, Governance and Federalism (GAGF) Forum 2016 held in Makati, that He and his country would be happy to share their experience with a federal system and contribute to discussion in other countries.

He said that there was “General Interest” from both foundation and the embassy about discussion on this one of President’s Duterte’s advocacies.

Additionally, Hasper pointed out that there are many different kinds of federalism and that “a federal constitution can be successful of if suits the necessities of the state and its constituents.” He added that in Germany, Federalism does not only gives more autonomy to the individual states to construct their own taxation reforms and execute political prowess but also serves as “an instrument to political participation and democracy”.

Bottom-line, Federalism is not as bad as most people think, evidently most of the progressive countries in Asia and Europe are mold in this kind of government, and besides no matter how we change the government structure but leaving rotten people to control it, Philippines will be the same 100 years from now as it was 100 years before.
