They may be celebrating on their huge victories as GlobalPort Batang Pier nailed a 2-0 in its first two outings in the 2016-2017 PBA Philippine Cup, but it is not yet the time to slack-off their joints, and definitely they need to keep their focus for there is still a long bumpy road ahead.
The 2015 Rookie of the Year Stanley Pringle knows the true test are yet to come, warned his fellow Batang Pier not to be blinded by their recent victories, especially after their win over Star on Friday in a overpowered match which ended to 91-84 score.
After Pringle poured 24 points, three rebounds, and two assists in GlobalPort's second victory, the rookie Batang Pier says that he and his team just need to stay focused, taking it game-by-game, to put their team in a better position for the playoffs.
“We just need to stay focused,” Pringle said. “We’re just taking it game-by-game. We’re just putting ourselves in a better position for the playoffs.”
Stanley displays his feats firing 12 markers which pushed his team a 29-8 lead against Hotshots at the end of first quarter. This held Hotshots in a struggling position and could only hit as close as nine points early in the 4th quarter before they lose the game to GlobalPorts.
The Batang Pier guard says that their team's good warm-up helped him.
“In the Mahindra game, we came out good, but today, we had a better warmup. As soon as the game began, everybody was ready to run. We kept on pushing the ball early.”
Pringle noted Terrence Romeo as a "special player", and his playmaking skills helped him
“He can run the point and the two. If he gets the ball, I told him to run to the corner and I’ll be in the corner spreading the defense out. It definitely helps us out.”
Though GlobalPort already marked a good start on it opening pair games, Pringle is looking up on their next matches, especially on their next one scheduled on Wednesday, where they will face Alaska.
“We need to execute, for sure. We got to early starts on both of our games, but I doubt Alaska is going to let us have our early start. We’re pretty sure they’re going to slow us down early, so we got to focus on executing and keep on playing good defense,” he said.
