NPA Declares to End the Ceasefire

THE New People's Army (NPA), the battle wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), is ending the one-sided truce it proclaimed in August a year ago.

In an announcement, NPA representative Jorge Madlos said the administration peace board would be pulled out Wednesday of the end of the détente.

Madlos said one-sided truce closes on February 10. "With this presentation and notice, the August 28 one-sided truce should successfully terminate on 11:59 p.m. of February 10," Madlos included. Madlos clarified the legislature "has not agreed to its commitment to absolution and discharge every single political detainee."

"The Duterte regime failed to fulfill such obligation even though the CPP oblige it by extending the ceasefire declaration to more than 150 days," he said. He added that the government "had treacherously taken advantage of the unilateral declaration of interim ceasefire to encroach on the territory of the people's democratic government.

" While the CPP and NPA terminated the ceasefire, Madlos assured that it is remain committed to supporting the ongoing peace talks. "Even as we terminate the unilateral declaration of interim ceasefire, we continue to support the [government and] NDF (National Democratic Front) peace negotiations," Madlos said.

As far as it matters, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will in any case uphold the one-sided truce requested by Duterte last July, until they get a notice for its end. "Anyway, in spite of their proclaimed truce, they have not quit blackmailing under the pretense of their supposed progressive tax assessment, continued enlisting, smoldering transports and hardware, ambushing and hijacking fighters," he said.
