“They should never be forgotten" – Noy

MANILA – Following the clandestine burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the ‘Libingan ng mga Bayani’ on Friday, former President Benigno ‘Noy’ Aquino III vent out his sentiments.

However, according to the former president’s spokesperson, Abigail Valte, Noy’s statement focused on those who witnessed the Martial Law regime and now lived to tell their stories.

"Former President Aquino believes at a time like this, it is fitting that we hear the voices of others: learn about their stories, the persons behind the statistics, their loved ones lost to the regime of Martial Law. They should never be forgotten," Noy stated.

Benigno ‘Noy’ Aquino III is the only son of Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and the late President Corazaon Aquino. His father and mother are known for their contribution and their stand against the dictatorship of former President Marcos during the Martial Law era. Ninoy was assassinated on August 21, 1983, and the incident was blamed to Marcos, thus lead to the event of ‘People Power I’.

And on Friday noon, despite of protests from various sectors, former dictator’s remains were carried from Ilocos Norte to LNMB to be buried, just over a week after the Supreme Court allowed it.

This year the country will commemorate the 30th anniversary of freeing itself from Marcos’ dictatorship, while left with 75,000 ‘Martial Law’ victims still waiting for their amends.
The Marcoses were alleged to have plundered $10 billion from state resources during their reign. Noy’s mother, former President Corazon Aquino formed an anti-graft body and managed to recover on $4 billion in cash and assets.

According to the late strongman's family, it's his last wish to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani, fighting for it for decades, and finally President Rodrigo Duterte allowed the burial to happen.
