The first twelve minutes of Ghost in the Shell expertly joint philosophical reflections (the difference between a man & machine, what it means to be human) with, well, plentiful shots scrutinizing ScarJo’s ass. Which is to say, the film (or at least this preview) has its bases covered. It’s a pretty perfectly calibrated mix of the high and low brow, infusing each visceral gun battle with ponderous looks and thoughtful quotes.
Based on the internationally admired sci-fi manga series, "Ghost in the Shell" follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human cyborg hybrid, who leads the top task force Section 9. Devoted to stop the most dangerous criminals and revolutionaries, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose primary and the only goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic's advancements in cyber technology. Written by Paramount Pictures.
Casts Includes: Scarlett Johansson as the Major, Michael Pitt as Kuze, Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet, Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke Aramaki, Chin Han as Togusa, Pilou Asbaek as Batou, Chris Obi as Ambassador Kiyoshi etc…
TRIVIA:
This film's production was met with disagreement over the choice to cast the lead role of Major Motoko Kusanagi (a Japanese character in the original source material and previous adaptations) as white, with the role going to Scarlett Johansson. Online protests over Hollywood whitewashing flared up in April 2016 when Paramount Pictures released the first promotional image of Johansson in costume. The anger toward her casting was exacerbated by reports that Lola VFX, the company behind the character-aging effects in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), was commissioned to manage tests on visual effects to make white actors look Asian, though the results were reportedly rejected immediately upon their review.
